Organizations



The Roanoke Jewish Community Council: The council represents the interests of the entire Jewish community and operates as a benevolent society by granting scholarships and underwriting cultural events of Jewish interest in Roanoke. The area's United Jewish Appeal campaign is under the auspices of this group.

The Jewish Community Preschool: A cooperative Preschool for children whose families belong to either Beth Israel or Temple Emanuel.

The Jewish Community Religious School: A cooperative Sunday School for children whose families belong to either Beth Israel or Temple Emanuel. Programming begins with hands on holiday workshops for preschoolers and weekly classes for children from kindergarten through 8th grade.

Jewish Academy: A high school program of Jewish learning for grades 9 through 12.
It also includes the confirmation program.

Golden Oldies: A special group for seniors, which meets monthly and provides fellowship and programming along with coffee and dessert for attendees.

Sisterhood: Beth Israel Sisterhood has been a member of the Seaboard Branch of the Women's League for Conservative Judaism (WLCJ) for over 60 years. Our Sisterhood is open to all women in the synagogue membership and provides a community in itself. We are intricately involved in Synagogue life including fundraising, community service, social planning and more.

Hadassah: Roanoke chapter of this women's service organization which has grown to much more than Hadassah Hospital and medical research. Among its many programs are vocational training throughout the world, curriculum and legislation watches, breast cancer awareness and literacy movements.

B'nai B'rith: Roanoke chapter of the oldest Jewish fraternal organization in the world.

USY Youth Organizations Open to all in the Jewish community, the groups offer the opportunity for fun and educational Jewish experiences. Local and regional activities are planned throughout the year.
